Multifocal Contact Lenses: Did you know there are multifocal contact lenses? Just like multifocal glasses, multifocal contact lenses have two distinct zones; one for our distance vision and one for our near vision. However, the design of the contact lens is different to our glasses. With multifocal glasses, we tilt our head and/or move our eyes to look through a certain part of the lens with the distance prescription in the top and reading prescription in the bottom. Contact lenses move with our eyes so the design needs to be different. Multifocal contact lens designs are based on how our pupils naturally work. Our pupils become bigger when looking in the distance, and when we're looking at something up close, our pupils become smaller. Therefore, the distance zone is on the outer edge of the contact lens and the near zone is in the inner zone of the lens. This helps us naturally focus on things at all distances. Because it is using different technology to multifocal glasses, it may take some time for your brain to get used to it.
